What does it mean to be spiritual? How do we transition from the idea that we are all one, made of the same energy, to the understanding that each of us is different and unique?
Astrology helps us comprehend this shift from totality to individual manifestation. As we delve into the study of astrology, we begin to realize that there is unity and wholeness in life, that we are all patterns of the same source of energy. This unity is divided into the principles of Yin and Yang, active and receptive, light and shadow.
These principles further divide into the four elements: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. Each element is then divided into three signs. For example, Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are Fire signs. In total, we have twelve signs. I will explore each sign, going beyond the characteristics typically associated with them, to understand their archetype and core motivation. For instance, Leo is sometimes negatively referred to as the attention seeker of the zodiac. Why is that? Leo’s archetype is the bearer of Light, and their central motivation is to express their own light and allow it to shine, bringing warmth to the paths of others. That’s why Leo needs to be in the center and grab the attention of others. A teacher may exhibit Leo energy by being at the forefront, speaking and educating on topics they care about, with the intention of shedding light on those matters and hoping to incorporate them into the lives of others. The same goes for a clown, an artist, or that friend who always shares the most heartwarming stories around a bonfire, keeping us captivated.
Understanding archetypes goes beyond the personality traits that are often portrayed in either positive or negative interpretations. It reveals general principles of life that we all share. It’s about comprehending the depths of human motivations, which then transform into individual manifestations that contribute to positive or negative personality traits. We are not just one astrological sign; we carry all the archetypes within us. In astrology, certain archetypes hold more significance in our lives than others. This means we are not solely Leo or Cancer. Leo or Cancer are pure forces of archetypal energy. We are a blend of all the archetypes, complex human beings. An astrological birth chart is unique to each individual and reflects our human contradictions among these different shared motivations.
